Slip into fun on New Year's Day

Slip and slide your way into the Gulf of Mexico for a non- traditional Polar Bear Dip with the Kiwanis Club of Gulf Shores on Sunday, Jan. 1, at high noon at Gulf Shores Public Beach.

There is no charge to participate, and the local Kiwanians, with the cooperation of The Hangout and the City of Gulf Shores, will set up a 33 foot, two lane slip -n- slide that will deposit sliders directly  into the Gulf of Mexico. Of course, some participants may choose to  take a more traditional route to the Gulf. But regardless of how they

got there, all participants will be treated to a free buffet at The  Hangout afterwards.

It's a family friendly event, and participants are encouraged to  come in costume and celebrate the new year with a refreshing dip into the Gulf of Mexico. The plunge will take place at high noon directly in front of The Hangout, at the south end of Highway 59 in Gulf Shores.

There is no registration required or cost to participate and prizes will be awarded for the best costumes and the best teams. A special cash award and trophy will be presented to the Snowbird Club with the most number of participants.

Of course, all the bowl games will be shown on the Hangout's big screen TVs, and the Hangout will also offer food and drink specials, as well as the children's activities that are a big part of why The Hangout is “where 59 ends and the fun begins”.

Since 1985, the Kiwanis Club of Gulf Shores has raised and distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars and had a good time doing it. Its members are key citizens from the Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Foley metro that get involved to improve the lives of children. The club meets on Tuesdays at noon in the Palmer Dining Room at Craft Farms Golf Course. Visitors are always welcome.
