DAPHNE, Ala.—A special council meeting yesterday to canvass voting results of last Tuesday’s mayoral run-off election between incumbent Fred Small and former mayor Harry Brown revealed Small’s 283-vote lead. The final tally had Small defeating Brown 2,019 to 1,736.

Election official David Cohen read the official tally per voting machine for each district. The results are as follows:

•District 1 (two machines): Brown-292, Small-170; Brown-22; Small-16.

•District 2 (two machines): Brown-191, Small-417; Brown-52, Small-128.

•District 3 (two machines): Brown-126, Small-97; Brown-125, Small-84.

•Districts 4 and 5 (two machines): Brown-212, Small-310; Brown-133, Small-218;

•Districts 6 and 7 (two machines): Brown-236, Small-219; Brown-300, Small-307;

Small received 51 absentee votes to Brown’s 47.

Two provisional ballots were accepted; both were votes for Small.

The six council members present—Bailey Yelding, Cathy Barnette, John Lake, Greg Burnam, Eric Nager and August Palumbo—unanimously adopted a resoultion to accept the official election results;

Councilman Ron Scott was absent.
