Marion William “Bill” Smith, 62, a native of Jacksonville and a resident of Fairhope, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009.

He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, the Propeller Club, a mystic society, as well as being a Seminole booster. He was a Vietnam veteran and received a purple heart.

His early career was in Jacksonville Ship Yards. Since 1989, he was a co-owner of Oil Recovery Company in Mobile.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Smith, mother, Lyla Faye Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Smith of Fairhope; two sons, Jason Smith of Daphne and Jess (Tiki) McAlister of Jacksonville, Fla.; three daughters, Lori (John) Matus of Fairhope, Minta Findley and Lotti McAlister, both of Gautier, Miss.; his father, Curtis Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Tyler and Dakota Hicks, Ceirra McAlister, Kristen Matus, Joshua, Aryan and Jason McAlister; one great-grandchild, Erian Hadley; other relatives and friends.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Daphne. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
