Bayside splits with Houston Academy

DAPHNE — Emily Mace scored twice in the first half, once in the second and Courtney Pilot added a goal as Bayside defeated region rival Houston Academy 4-0 Friday. Brittany Houseman posted her fourth shutout in goal for the Lady Admirals who improved to 3-0 in region play and 7-5 overall.

Coach Josh Montgomery said early tournament competition helped hone the team's skills.

“We’re playing well. We played a lot of good teams early in Birmingham and gained some confidence along the way. I feel real good about the results with St. Pauls which helps us. Most of our focus is on possession and moving the ball. But the girls have worked hard and feel good about where we're at right now.”

Bayside travels to face Saraland March 31 at the University of Mobile and stays on the road in Dothan until April 12 when they host UMS-Wright. Girls varsity kicks offs are set for 5 p.m.

The Bayside boys fell 1-0 to Houston Academy in a 1A-4A Region 1 match.

Rush Jones scored unassisted for the Raiders just before the half. HA (4-6-3, 4-1) then held out for the win. Bayside keeper Matt English recorded eight saves in goal.
