FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The Alabama Fair Campaign Practices Act requires that candidates file several forms when running for office. These forms provide some helpful public information to voters about the people running for local office.

Within five days of filing qualifying papers with the City Clerk, candidates must also file the “Appointment of Principal Campaign Committee” forms with the county probate court. That campaign committee can consist of the candidate, or up to five individuals.

In addition, once a candidate raises a threshold $1,000 in campaign funds, he or she must also file up to two pre-election financial disclosure forms with the probate court. The first of those forms was due by July 14. The final pre-election financial disclosure forms must be filed between Aug. 15 and Aug. 21.

All of the required forms are available for viewing at the Baldwin County Probate Court Web site at: http://www.deltacomputersystems.com/al/al05/drlinkqueryf.html.

The following information about the City Council candidates was retrieved from that Web site. If no campaign committee or pre-election is included below, it means they could not be found on the probate court Web site. As noted, financial disclosure forms are only required to be filed once the threshold amount has been raised.

Only summary totals of certain categories are reported, resulting in some ending totals appearing not to add up correctly here. For complete reports with itemized contribution and expenditure lists, consult the Web site.
