Sophomores set to lead Sun Chiefs

BAY MINETTE – Coach Jack Robertson and his Faulkner State Sun Chiefs are looking to have a successful year this coming basketball season.

Robertson is looking towards his sophomores to come up big for him but he mentioned that the returners do have their work cut out for them as some of the incoming freshmen have come up big during preseason practice. Looking at the team for this year Robertson has six returning sophomores: Donte Jackson, Michael Washington, Brad and Brian Lacey, Brandon Hubbard, and Marcus Broughton.

Jackson from Macon,Ga. plays the point guard position. Coach Robertson talked some about him, "Donte is quick on the court and a leader both on and off the court." Jackson's only down size is his height, coming in at 5'8 Robertson feels like some schools may over look him because of his size.

Washington is an inside post player with good hands and is one of the Sun Chiefs’ top inside shooting threats. Coach Robertson mentioned if they can keep Washington healthy this season he will be a big asset to the team.

Identical twins Brad and Brian Lacey play the number two guard position. "The twins are good guys and hard players. Both of them get to the rebound and have a good jump range," Robertson stated about the Lacey brothers.

Gulf Shores resident Brandon Hubbard is a three point threat and is accurate on the free throw line. "Hubbard plays hard and is a great leader."

Bay Minette's Marcus Broughton plays inside post. Robertson said “Marcus is a good shooter and a threat, he is an outstanding student that needs to get more playing time.”

Helping these six players are two transfer students from Tallahassee Community College, Jamel Brazeal and Jamar Moore.

Brazeal graduated high school from Blount. Coach Robertson had good things to say about his 6'3" sophomore, "Brazeal is a good person all around, he is a natural leader and will make the scores that are needed."

Moore, from Coolidge, Ga., is an all-round good ball handler with his dribbling and passing skills. A 6'6" transfer Moore will play a strong post and is a danger on the outside.

Anthony Sims, another Blount standout is a red shirt freshman that will help out with the Sun Chiefs this year. "Sims is an A-B student, and is the most productive on both ends of the court," Robertson went on to say for the former  Blount Leopard.

When talking about former Fairhope standout Blair Lowell Robertson stated, "He is a smart player, very sneaky and quick.

To round out this years roster Robertson gained William Worthy, Joey Patton, Desi Prowell, Bradley Boyd, and Kennon Washington.

The Sun Chiefs first home game is Nov. 10 at 7:05 against Pensacola Christian College.
