"This is a great program!"
Baldwin County community leaders said this over and over, as they learned more about Extended Family at a June 2 Community Breakfast hosted by Fairhope Christian Church in Fairhope.
Law enforcement personnel, judiciary, social services directors, prison volunteers, and church leaders agreed that help for the families of prisoners was needed in their area. Repeatedly they committed to supporting Extended Family work in their area.
Laure Clemons, Extended Family Executive Director, was the Breakfast keynote speaker. She told the story of how Extended Family started, introduced the Southalabama Branch of Extended Family, and reviewed programs offered to help families of prisoners be successful.
“At Extended Family we offer solutions and hope,” Clemons said. “The Southalabama Branch of Extended Family will offer support to families of prisoners in 3 solution-based ways. Monthly meetings led by trained Extended Family Branch Leaders; community resources collected to share with families at meetings and on Web site; and one-on-one connections to ease isolation and increase solution sharing.”
Many of those present took the microphone to share their support for Extended Family and programs assisting families of prisoners and their children. These included Kenyen Brown, U.S. Attorney Southern District Alabama; Cecil Christenberry, Baldwin County School Board; Sheriff Huey Hoss Mack, Baldwin County Sheriff; Debra Phillips, Beautiful Gate Ministry; Carmen Bosch, Circuit Judge Baldwin County; Chief Joseph Pettis, Chief Fairhope Police Department, Jack Burrell, President Fairhope City Council , and Rev. Henry L.Crawford, Good Samaritan Sanctuary.
Newly trained Branch Leaders Pastor Rick Malugani of Fairhope Christian Church and Mrs. Richadean Crawford of Good Samaritan Sanctuary also shared their interest and commitment for helping these families. They will be leading monthly meetings of Extended Family at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of every month at Good Samaritan Sanctuary, 7208 Twin Beech Road, Fairhope. The next meeting will be Thursday July 7th.
