Posted

The South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce hosted a special luncheon on March 17 entitled "Alabama Space Program…Exploring the Unknown," at the Foley Civic Center. Special guest speakers were Robert M. Lightfoot, Director of Huntsville's Marshall Space Flight Center and Jim Halsell, Former NASA Astronaut. Lightfoot elaborated on the economic impact that Marshall Space Flight Center has on the entire State of Alabama and the future in which the program is headed. Afterwards, Jim Halsell described past space shuttle flight procedures and experiences while logging over 1,250 hours in space during his previous five space shuttle missions.

Twenty Foley High School senior students were also in attendance at the luncheon that might have an interest in a career with the Space Program. Both guest speakers, Lightfoot and Halsell took questions from many of those students while expaining the many different career paths available within the NASA Space Program.
