Patriotism was alive and well this week in South Baldwin County as various Veterans Day programs honored those who served in U.S. military service.

On Monday, the town of Summerdale held its 14th annual Veterans Day Celebration following the Summerdale Town Council Meeting in Summerdale Municipal Complex. The evening included a musical slide show honoring area veterans. Then, attending veterans in the audience were asked to tell their name, as well as when and where they served.

This year’s Summerdale Veterans Day Program also featured a new addition, as Shane Tucker performed his concert, “Elvis Remembered.” The evening concluded with refreshments served in the complex’s kitchen area.

Tuesday morning in the Forward City, American Legion Post 99 sponsored the Foley Veterans Day Parade and Program. The parade included area military, Foley High ROTC, Foley High School Band, the Foley Fire Department, American Legion members and additional veterans, among other entries.

Starting at Max Griffin Park, the parade traversed up Alston Street and back around to the park. There, a patriotic program hosted by American Legion paid tribute to veterans and first responders. Serving as guest speaker was Post Chaplain Oliver Gifford.
