South Baldwin Newcomers' Club Holds Annual Treasures & More Luncheon

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. -- On March 7 the South Baldwin Newcomers' Club held their annual Treasures & More luncheon at the Orange Beach Community Center.

Our guests enjoyed a delicious lunch that was made with recipes from our cookbook “Toast of the Coast.” In addition to the delicious lunch, we had a silent auction, raffle prizes, and music provided by Bill and Colleen.

The luncheon was a great success due to the hard work and diligence of so many people. Some key people: Ways and Means Chair Margaret Jones. Helen Clark who gathered the baskets; Dot Larrimore and her kitchen volunteers; Daria McDonald who handled publicity; Charlene Doody and the bartending staff; Carol Trotter for managing the funds; Marinda Barbaree and Debbie Willis for handling distribution of items; Carolyn Adams for her creative displays; and Ellen Paine who coordinated ticket sales.

The club offered a shout of thanks to all the men in the background who lugged items for us, served us tea, and generally supported us.

Each of our clubs' social subgroups created one or more of the baskets that were displayed and offered for bidding at the luncheon. Our guests had an opportunity to place a silent bid on these baskets, as well as many singular items.

The luncheon netted more than $9,000. This, as well as all monies made through charitable activities this year, are donated to local charities and scholarships.

The club’s April luncheon will be held on Tuesday, April 3, at the Beach Club on Ft. Morgan Road, Gulf Shores. The doors open at 11 a.m. and lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $18 per person. Reservations are required.
