FAIRHOPE, Ala. — A wacky, crazy comedy set in an Alabama swamp, “Duck Hunter Shoots Angel,” will begin Theatre 98’s 2009 season with a bang.
A rare comedy with a surprisingly heartfelt lesson, “Duck Hunter Shoots Angel” is the uproarious story of two bumbling Alabama brothers who have never shot a duck but think they shot an angel.
As they lament their fates in a murky swamp, they are chased by a cynical tabloid journalist and his reluctant photographer, who don’t believe any of it — until they start to find signs of the angel in the swamp.
The play hysterically interweaves a love story, sibling rivalry, tawdry media and cultural stereotypes as the chase to find the angel builds to a crescendo in the swamp.
“Duck Hunter Shoots Angel” was written by Mitch Albom, the best-selling author of Tuesdays with Morrie, The Five People You Meet In Heaven and For One More Day.
Filled with laughs and heart and directed by Marcus Willis, this production is sure to keep you laughing and thinking long after the curtain call.
The cast is made up of veteran and new performers, including Randy Hicks, Mark Swalley, Angie LoPresti, Will Holley, Dorian Normand, Scotty White, Aaron McKee, Dorrie Lee Smith and Erika Hakmiller.
Performances are Jan. 23-25, 28-31 and Feb. 1.
Regular performances are at 8 p.m., and Sunday matinees are at 2:30.
