Spanish Fort "Camp of Champions" back this summer

SPANISH FORT, Alabama — Lady Hoopsters of tomorrow can get in the game early this summer with a two-day instructional camp starting next week.

The “Camp of Champions” at Spanish Fort High School will be hosted by the Girls Lady Toros Basketball Program on June 10- 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The camp will be led by Lady Toros head basketball coach Angi Puckett and her staff in the SFHS gymnasium and the cost is $25.

“Our first goal of our youth camp is to spark an interest in the game of basketball in our young athletes,” Puckett said. ”When played with passion and energy there isn't a game that is more enjoyable than basketball. My former and returning players act as assistants at our camp and help in creating an enthusiastic atmosphere.

“We will cover the basic fundamentals of basketball, along with many drills to challenge the girls. Campers will learn the core values and principles of our program and the work ethic it takes to become a great player. If at a young age players can start learning the game and experiencing some success with it, they will aspire to continue to progress and fall in love with the game.”

The Camp of Champions for 2013 is open to girls going into grades first through eighth. Coach Puckett will cover basketball fundamentals and will also teach campers drills they can perform on their own to help equip them to become better basketball players. No pre-registration is required and campers are encouraged to bring a friend.

Puckett played collegiate basketball for the University of Indianapolis.

“We had a great group of campers last year who seem dedicated to improving their skills. I know many will be back at camp again this year, eager to learn and improve and we hope to also see a lot of new faces.”
