SPANISH FORT, Ala.—Baldwin County residents are no strangers to Mother Nature’s wrath, which is why people like Spanish Fort’s Kimberly Walters are busy gathering supplies and non-perishable items for distribution in tornado-ravaged northern Alabama.
“I received my share of care packages from friends and family in the Birmingham area after (Hurricane) Katrina. You just don’t think twice about helping any way you can when you see the tables turned,” she said.
Walters will be dropping off her items at the Eastern Shore Centre Fountain May 7, as EasternShoreMom.com hosts “Couponing for a Cause: Tuscaloosa Donation Collection Driveby” from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. that day.
Aubrey Nix, founder of the grassroots couponing and frugal living website, has called on all Baldwin and Mobile county residents to assist friends, family and even strangers struggling to recover from the devastation wrought by the April 27 tornado outbreak.
“Many have lost whole homes, family members and are in need of basic necessities to live. Let's come together and help them out,” Nix wrote in her plea.
