BAY MINETTE, Ala. County rivals Spanish Fort, Foley and Gulf Shores will be among the seven visiting teams participating in this weekend’s Baldwin County High Schoo Spring Invitational Softball Tournament.
Other visiting teams in the event, which will be held on the BCHS field and at nearby O.C. Waters Park for Friday’s pool-play games, are Murphy, Baker and UMS-Wright of Mobile and Mobile County’s Alma Bryant of Irvington.
BCHS, Alma Bryant and Murphy will make up Pool A with Pool B consisting of Gulf Shores, UMS-Wright, Baker and Spanish Fort. All Pool A games will be played on the BCHS field beginning at 4 p.m. Friday when the host Lady Tigers take on Alma Bryant while Gulf Shores meets UMS-Wright and Spanish Fort battles Baker in Pool B games at Waters Park.
In other Pool A games Friday afternoon and night on Field No. 1 at BCHS, the schedule has Murphy vs. Foley at 5:30 Murphy vs. Alma Bryant at 7, and BCHS vs. Foley at 8:30. At Waters Park, all four teams will play three straight games starting at 4 p.m., including Gulf Shores on Field No.2 against UMS-Wright, Spanish Fort and Baker.
The Field No. 3 schedule has Spanish Fort vs. Baker, UMS-Wright vs. Baker and UMS-Wright vs. Spanish Fort.
Pool A will complete its play Saturday morning at BCHS, where all of that day’s games will take place. The Lady Tigers battle Murphy at 8 o’clock and Foley takes on Alma Bryant at 9:30. At 11 a.m., the No. 1 seed from Pool A will play the No. 4 seed from Pool B, followed at 12:30 by the No. 2 seed from Pool B vs. No. 3 from Pool A.
At 2 p.m. No. 1 from Pool B plays No. 4 from Pool A, then at 3:30 Pool A’s No. 2 seed meets Pool B’s third seed.
Elimination play continues at 5 and 6:30 p.m., with the championship game scheduled for 8 o’clock.
Tie-breakers will be: (1) won-lost; (2) head-to-head; (3) runs allowed; (4) runs scored; (5) coin flip.
Pool and elimination-play games will have 75-minute time limits with no inning to start after 70 minutes. The tournament’s championship game will have no time limit.
