MOBILE, Ala. — The Spanish Fort Lady Toros just missed a medal at the Azalea City Classic girls invitational hosted by the University of South Alabama Saturday at the Brookley campus on the Western Shore of Mobile Bay.
Spanish Fort was fourth behind McGill-Toolen, UMS-Wright and St. Paul's third. SFHS was led by sophomore Jordan Huber in 19th place individually. Mc-T's Carmen Carlos was the overall winner in 17:47.95 just ahead of teammate from Montrose Sage Blackwell. Huber was the next Baldwin runner across in 21:35.92. Robertsdale's Trista Phelps was 22nd and Daphne's Kaleigh Akers 23rd. Felicia Guthrie of Foley led the Lady Lions who finished in eighth place ahead of RHS in ninth. Daphne did not have enough runners for a team.
In the boys race, McGill-Toolen also won ahead of Baker and UMS-Wright. Dan Drew of St. Paul's won the individual title with a sub-17 time of 16:11.95. The Saints were fourth, Cottage Hill fifth, Daphne sixth, SFHS seventh, Foley eighth and RHS was 11th in the 14-team field.
Tyler Orem of SFHS had the best Baldwin runners' time with a 17:26 in 14th place. Daphne's John Walker and Alex Guillory were 17th and 18th just ahead of the Toros' Connor Irion in 21st. Foley's first finisher was Zavion Strickland and Christopher Redd III led the Golden Bears' team.
