SPANISH FORT — The Spanish Fort Lady Toros reached their second straight 5A final four after beating Gulf Shores on Saturday.

Spanish Fort (22-4-1) will play Athens at 1:30 p.m. today at the Huntsville Soccer Complex. The winner will face the winner of the Chelsea — Arab game in the finals tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.

Spanish Fort reached the 5A finals last season, but lost to Briarwood Christian.

“..We’re happy to go back, of course,” Spanish Fort coach Barclay Kercher said after her team beat Gulf Shores. “But we have to keep our intensity up and pick up the tempo of play. As we head north the competition gets much tougher.”

She said last year’s run to the title game experience would help this year.

“With the experience we have along with the five seniors and the great leadership that we have, they are all hungry to get back up there and I think we’re ready to bring it home. I’m so proud of all of them for the way they are playing as a team and understanding that really is all 11 of them working togehter on the field that makes it all come together, not one star player.”
