SPANISH FORT, Ala.—Spanish Fort has a star in its midst, a superstar to be exact.
Spanish Fort High School student Rebecca Womack was named the 2011 Senior Bowl Superstar winner this morning, following three intense days of unlimited online voting.
Womack competed against fellow finalists Carye Deckle, a University of South Alabama student, and sisters Felisha and Latona Coleman for the opportunity to sing the National Anthem during the 2011 Senior Bowl at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile Jan. 29.
Although it was not immediately clear how many votes each finalist netted, Senior Bowl officials did confirm a record 160,000 votes were cast online between Friday morning and Sunday night.
By comparison, some 23,000 online votes were cast in 2010, when six-member Satsuma High School group “Acapella Sounds” claimed the honor.
