Spanish Fort holds off Trojan Horses for 64-53 win at SFHS

SPANISH FORT, Alabama—The Spanish Fort Toros improved to 6-0 with a 64-53 win over visiting Daphne at the Fort Thursday.

Reagan Eubanks scored 28 points to lead all as 5A Spanish Fort broke away from a 41-41 tie game to start the final period and hold on to take the Upper-Eastern Shore hardwood bragging rights. Quinn Atkinson added 13 points for the Toros while Carter Jones and Grant Schumacher posted eight each. Austin Depperschmidt had 10 rebounds and finished with five points for SF. Ronnie Davis led 6A Daphne in scoring with 14 points and Devonte Young scored 12 and Bradley Nero added nine.

The Trojans led 25-24 at the half and led by as much as nine 36-27 mid way into the third quarter. But SF began a 12-5 run with 2:47 to go in the period which ended all even when Trent Strickland sank the tying bucket with 29 seconds to make it 41-all. He had six points for SF.

The Toros led 13-9 after the first eight minutes but Daphne recovered with strong inside put-backs from Young and accurate outside shooting from C.J. Yelding, Chris Sain and Davis in the second quarter and built on it until halfway into the third. The Trojans retook the lead again in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter 50-45 before Spanish Fort burst out for a 23-12 scoring rally down the stretch.

Daphne fell to 2-3 with the loss. The Trojans travel to Foley Dec. 7 for a 7:30 p.m., 6A Area tipoff. The Toros will open the 5A Area 3 race at SFHS with a visit from county and area rival Gulf Shores Dec. 14.
