SPANISH FORT, Ala.—Parents looking to beat the heat without breaking the bank need look no further than Premiere Cinemas at the Eastern Shore Centre on Wednesdays this summer.

Beginning June 22, the Spanish Fort movie theater will offer family friendly shows at 10 a.m. for only $1 per head as part of its Summer Kids Fest.

“Last year we did it by reservation only, and we charged $5 but that included a (concession) combo. This year we decided to open it up to anybody who wants to show up and enjoy a good movie,” said Will Sanders, the movie theater’s director.

Sanders said the line-up is strong with favorites such as “Surf’s Up” and “Despicable Me,” and the “seven-week movie marathon” begins June 22 with “Alvin and the Chipmunks.”

“We hope to do really well with it, and we really hope everybody who comes out has a good time,” he said.

Child-care centers and church groups are encouraged to attend, Sanders said, noting it’s often difficult to find affordable outings for large groups. Because there are no other movies showing in the multiplex that early in the day, Sanders said his staff can easily open up additional screens as needed to accommodate any size crowd.

Other titles in the series include “Bee Movie,” “Horton Hears a Who,” “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel.”
