The Toros are getting ready for a another run at the 5A Region 1 title. Although they didn't win the region in the regular season, the Spanish Fort team went deeper in the 5A playoffs than any other of their region foes in 2009.
This year, Toro head coach Bryant Vincent expects the Region 1 alignment to be even tougher.
"There's no doubt that we play in the toughest region in 5A," he said. "I call it the SEC of 5A football. Vigor, LeFlore and St. Paul's have everyone back and they are loaded. Gulf Shores will be tough as usual. This is the toughest schedule we have ever had at Spanish Fort."
To get ready for that level of tough regional competition, the Toros have added more 6A teams to the 2010 schedule which opens with 6A Region 2 champion Fairhope. Baldwin County High and Mary G. Montgomery will also line up with the Toros in the regular season this fall.
