SPANISH FORT, Ala. — Zac Fowler scattered three hits in five innings and drove in two runs on three hits to lead the No.3-ranked 5A Spanish Fort Toros to an 11-1 win over Theodore in the final of the Alabama-Oklahoma Challenge tournament.
The four-day tournament concluded on Thursday with the 10-4 Toros going 4-0 with wins over St. Paul’s, Deer Creek, Okla., and Daphne before 10-running the Bobcats. Fairhope and Theodore went 3-1 and Daphne was 2-2.
Troy Brown had a two-run home run, Cole Jarman a solo homer and Rocky McCord added a two-run double for Fowler who struck out three to go 3-0.
At Fairhope, No.1-ranked 6A Fairhope defeated Deer Creek, Okla. Toby Thomas, Peyton Fuller and Wes Kent each homered for the Pirates. Evan East had four hits, including three doubles, and drove in three runs for FHS. Hunter Ellenburg (3-0) gave up a walk but no hits with three strikeouts in two innings of relief for the win.
At Daphne, the Trojans held off a Satsuma Gator rally to close the tourney with a 6-5 win for Russ Mosley (3-0) who went the distance. Dillon Schaniel homered for the Trojans, Roger Lavoie had a SAC-fly and Ryan Lane a single in the bottom of the fifth to give DHS, 7-9, a 6-4 lead.
Mosley struck out six and scattered nine hits.
