The Gulf Shores High School Lady Dolphin tennis team opened the season with a win over county rival Bayside Academy.
The Lady Dolphins defeated the Lady Admirals in a 7-2 overall victory, capturing five of six singles matches and two of the 3 doubles sets. Sophomore newcomer Maci Goggans, the number one seed, overcame an early challenge to capture her match 7-5 6-4. Eighth grader Bailey Smith took her sets 6-4, 6-4. Kaitlin Alexander, a sophomore playing as the three seed, won at 6-0 6-3. Senior Morgan Valle rallied to take a three set victory 3-6, 6-3 6-3, and Lauren Rivers rounded out the singles with a 7-6, 6-4 victory. The doubles team of Goggans and Valle made short work of a pro-set match at 10-2 and Smith and Loper followed suit with a 10-3 victory.
Morgan Wright won a singles match for Bayside, and the team of Kat Miller and Jia Marquez got Bayside’s only doubles win.

FAIRHOPE – Amber Benson hit a three-run homerun that gave Daphne a 3-1 win over rival Fairhope on softball opening day on Monday.
Daphne’s JayTee Turner struck out seven to get the win, and Fairhope’s Farrish Beard struck out 13 hitters in the loss.
Stephanie Dunaway scored Fairhope’s only run.
Daphne hosts Mary G. Montgomery on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Fairhope plays at Spanish Fort in the Baldwin County Tournament on Friday at 4 p.m.
