In the Pre-School Department Pre-K3 has been learning everything about the letter “D”. The class has also been learning about Thanksgiving, Pilgrims, and Indians along with songs that relate to the topics. The class also has some very fun and special art projects planned for this month.
The Kindergarten class has been learning about Pilgrims and Indians this month, as well as the test of the alphabet, and numbers to 100. The class has been working hard on writing skills and sentences. Each morning the children write a sentence and the class goes over them together. The skill takes a lot of practice but all of the students are doing great.
The Eight graders in science class are creating gear mechanisms to measure the “Mechanical Advantage” or how much work is being done using Lego’s. They have also looked at several different types of mechanisms to identify what simple machines they are made of to show how they are “compound machines.”
The seventh graders used yeast to create a gas in order to inflate a balloon for their “fungus” unit. They also are creating an environment using pond water and hay in order to create an environment of microbes.
The sixth grade science students are studying waves and tsunamis. They made a model wave tank to examine the causes of waves and the parts of a wave. They also saw a video of the recent tsunami from Indonesia and measured the speed of the waves across the Indian Ocean.
