St. James to present pianists

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The St. James Concert Series features Ronald and Barbara Shinn, duo pianists, on Friday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m., at St. James Episcopal Church, 860 N. Section St. in Fairhope.

The St. James Concert Series presents its Bosendorfer piano to the Eastern Shore community during this performance.

Dr. Ronald Shinn is  a professor at Samford University. He previously held the chair Dowling Professor of Music at Huntingdon College, where he was a member of the music faculty for 30 years.

He holds piano performance degrees from the University of New Mexico, University of Wisconsin and the University of Alabama.

Shinn’s students are consistently winners in solo and concerto competitions.

In 1993, he was awarded the Exemplary Teaching Award through Huntingdon, and was honored as the recipient of the 1999 AMTA Teacher of the Year Award.

Barbara Shinn maintains a private piano studio, and has been a member of the music faculty at Huntington College.

Her students are consistent winners in solo and concerto competitions throughout the state and the South.

Awarded the Alabama Music Teachers Association Teacher of the Year Award in 2006, she holds degrees from Benedictine College, Atchison, Kan., and the University of Wisconsin.

There is no charge for the concert, but a freewill offering will be taken.
