FAIRHOPE, Alabama -- The Fairhope Pirates varsity football team fell just short of victory Friday night against No. 3 (5A) St. Paul's on W.C. Majors Field at Fairhope Municipal Stadium.
The Pirates battled back from a 14-7 halftime deficit to take the lead 21-17 in the fourth quarter, but could not hold on, giving up a score with 6:38 to play, then turning the ball over on the Saints' 5-yard-line with just under 15 seconds left.
The Pirates will take on cross-county rival Foley Friday night in the 7A Region 1 opener for both teams.
