St. Paul’s tent revival set for Nov. 15

DAPHNE, Ala.— St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Daphne will host a community-wide tent revival from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15.

The guest evangelist and preacher will be the Rev. Dr. Thomas Lane Butts Jr. Butts is a pastor in the United Methodist Church and has served churches in Alabama and west Florida for 48 years.

He has been the featured preacher for the United Methodist series of the “Protestant Radio Hour”—currently known as “Day 1”—36 times since 1978. “Day 1” is a nationally syndicated religious broadcast that features Protestant preachers.

Butts is in frequent demand as a speaker on college and university campuses and as an after-dinner speaker. Though officially retired from active ministry, Butts continues to preach in churches throughout the country and leads congregational retreats.

Butts has been an active leader in the civil rights movement since the mid-1950s. He signed a petition to integrate city buses in Mobile in 1957 and said one of the most inspirational events in his life was the day he spent with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. shortly after he came to Montgomery.

The music for the tent revival will be performed by St. Paul’s contemporary choir New Song under the direction of Clay Renkin. St. Paul’s pastor, the Rev. Thack H. Dyson, invites the community to this worship experience and said that it is offered as a gift to the community in celebration for God’s many gifts, especially to St. Paul’s [arish.

“Our hope is that those who come to this event, regardless of religious experience or denomination, will be renewed and restored in mind and spirit,” Dyson said.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is at 28788 N. Main St., Daphne, between the D’Olive and Windsor entrances to the Lake Forest subdivision. Child care will be provided and available from 5 to 9 p.m.
