SPANISH FORT – The St. Paul’s Saints are kings of the hill after toppling the Spanish Fort Toros 31-17 on Friday night, ending the Toros’ 13-game home winning streak.
Spanish Fort moved the ball effectively, with Davares Ambrose setting up a field goal followed by a touchdown scramble with 10:12 remaining in the first half. St. Paul’s would answer with a pair of touchdowns, taking the lead for the first time with a score of 14-10. Spanish Fort would spend the remainder of the game attempting to regain control of a very cohesive Saint team. Spanish Fort would get on the board one final time with a touchdown reception by wide receiver Troy Brown.
Saint Paul’s quarterback Jacob Coker showed remarkable composure against a formidable Spanish Fort defense, putting up another 17 points with a touchdown pass to Sonny Radcliff, a drive that ended with a field goal and an end zone scramble that would put the game in the books with a final score of 31-17.
“We are going to see those guys again. And we are going to have to play better.” Spanish Fort head coach Bryant Vincent told his team on the sidelines after the game. “Tonight the best team won, and we need to tip our hats to them.”
The Saints (3-0) will take on Leflore at home next Friday, while the Toros (2-1) host Mary G. Montgomery.
