Bartis “Red” Stanton, 91, a native of Lottie and a resident of Rosinton, died Friday, March 27, 2009,

During his lifetime, he was actively involved in country music in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. He and his band, Red Stanton and the Alabama Jubilee, performed in numerous cities around the south, as well as on television and radio.

He and his family moved to South Florida in 1954, where he worked as a union carpenter and supervisor until his retirement in 1979. At that time, he and his wife, Dale, moved back to his hometown of Rosinton.

He remained active in country music through the Mobile Country Music Association, now located in Chickasaw. He was a member of the Association for over 20 years, serving as trustee and a member of the Board of Directors. He was the second member to be inducted into the MCMA Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Styx River Bluegrass band performing at various functions and festivals in the area.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge #804 for over 60 years. He also served as past worthy patroin Star Chapter 150 in Hollywood, Fla.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dale Stanton of Rosinton; two daughters, Barbara (Russ) Staples of Rosinton and Joy Evans of Carson City, Nev.; two sons, Harlin (Geraldine) Stanton of Rosinton and Gaines (Eleanor) Stanton of Wewahitcha, Fla.; four sisters, Iona French of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Hazel Chris Tillman of Pnca, Okla., Marguerite Leffard of Mobile, and Euline Hall of Sykesville, Md.; a brother, Elvin Stanton of Montgomery; 12 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation begins at 9 a.m. with funeral services at 10 a.m. Monday, March 30 from the chapel of Mack Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike White officiating. Burial will follow at Baldwin Memorial Cemetery.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Mobile Country Music Association Building Fund, Robertsdale Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund or to the charity of your choice.
