BAY MINETTE, Alabama — State Rep. Harry Shiver was resting comfortably at his Bay Minette residence late Wednesday and talking to colleagues about Loxley drainage issues after suffering a stroke last week which caused temporary speech and memory problems.

State Sen. Trip Pittman said Wednesday that Shiver was moving and that his memory was nearly normal. “He’s getting back to 100 percent and talking state business,” Pittman said.

“We talked in detail about drainage problems and other state concerns.” Shiver suffered the stroke Aug. 16, resulting in some speech and memory issues, according to a Baldwin County Legislative Delegation spokesperson.

He was released from the hospital Monday. Shiver was a Stockton Junior High School teacher from 1968 to 1974. He was a Bay Minette Middle School teacher from 1974 to 2004. He was elected to the state House of Representatives in 2006.
