Thyssenkrupp Steel and Stainless USA will host a job fair Dec. 9 to help fill thousands of jobs associated with a state-of-the-art steel and stainless processing facility being constructed in Calvert.
Company representatives and Baldwin County Commissioners have teamed up to present the job fair at the Baldwin County Central Annex Building in Robertsdale from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Mary Mullins, director of communications for the global company, said about 2,700 workers will be employed at the plant when it becomes operational in 2010.
As of mid November, Mullins said about 300 workers have been hired. Thousands of construction jobs also are open at the $3.7 billion, 3,500-acre site in North Mobile County.
Alabama Industrial Development Training Program representatives will be on hand to describe permanent professional positions and hourly operator and maintenance technician positions available.
The job fair will be an open-house format and free of charge.
Online application is required for most positions and limited assistance will be offered for potential staffers who do not have ready access to the Internet, Mullins said.
For professional positions, applicants should go to thyssenkruppnewusplant.com, click on “careers” and follow links to available positions at the company and instructions about posting qualifications online.
For hourly operator and maintenance technician positions, applicants should go to jobs.aidt.edu/steel to review requirements and training opportunities.
The facility will manufacture and process carbon steel and stainless steel for high-value applications by manufacturers in the United States and North America, according to the company’s website.
