FAIRHOPE, Ala. - The C-17 cargo plane was the behemoth of the static displays at the 3rd Annual Fairhope Air Show Saturday at the H.L. “Sonny” Callahan Airport. The plane was designed to deliver materials into combat fields using smaller airfields.
Organizers estimate 12,000 attended the one-day show, which was a higher gate than Saturday last year when the fest was held over two days.
“World War II veterans really appreciated the old stuff we had,” said Rod Platt, event marketing director, “and the children enjoyed the items they could walk through.”
The 2008 show also featured an improved sound system and five aerobatic routines, he said. Stormy weather prevented a few scheduled aircraft from making the show.
