At Foley Intermediate there are a lot of people getting the flu and missing school. So, we asked Nurse Debi some questions about the flu. First, we asked her how do you get the flu? She said it is spread by coughing, sneezing, and close contact. Next, she said you can get the flu shots at your doctor’s office, the health department and some pharmacies. Then, how can you get keep from getting the flu? She said getting your flu shot, staying away from people that have the flu, staying healthy, and washing your hands. Then, we asked her can the flu kill you? She said yes, there have been some deaths. Last but not least, we asked her does she think the school should get more stuff that disinfect germs? She said we have enough, but there should be a Germ-X in every classroom. So try to stay well and not get the flu so you can attend school.
In Mrs. Hale’s Project Jubilee classes, we are buying and selling stocks in the Alabama Stock Market Game. In the stock market, you make money when you buy low and sell high. This means you buy when the stocks are priced low, and sell them when the price goes up. When you buy stocks, you are investing in that company. We have 100,000 virtual dollars to invest in the Stock Market Game. If the business you are investing in costs $100 a share, and you buy 100 shares, that will cost you $10,000. We divided the classes into groups called investment companies. The group that I was in last year came in last place. This year, though, we hope to do MUCH better. This year so far we invested in WMT(Wal-Mart), CFX(Coalfax Corporation), and COKE(Coke-A-Cola Drinking Company). The game is just starting this week. We will let you know how it goes!
