FAIRHOPE, Alabama — National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week is Nov. 6-12. The Haven will celebrate that week by sponsoring a poster contest for Baldwin County students in third through fifth grades. The theme is "Gimme Shelter" and students can qualify for three categories: best, most humorous and most creative.
Winners in each category will be announced at The Haven’s open house set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 5. The open house will kick-off the National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week activities. Fairhope Mayor Tim Kant will be on hand for the festivities.
All submitted posters will be used during the week’s events to promote that week, the benefits of work done by shelters and the value of animals one can adopt from them.
Participants have until 4 p.m. Oct. 31 to bring posters to The Haven, 559 South Section St., in Fairhope. Prior to the deadline, submissions can be mailed to P.O. Box 1063, Fairhope, AL 36533.
Poster entries should include the child’s name, address, phone number, email, age, school and grade. Once submitted, the posters will become the property of The Haven. For a list of events taking place during this week, visit havenforanimals.org, or call The Haven at 251-929-3980.
