FOLEY — Last year, the fourth grade students of Foley Elementary School constructed a 32-page book of illustrations and poems that celebrated Foley's history and importance.

The centennial project highlighted important landmarks, businesses and people from Foley's past with words beginning with each the 26 letters of the alphabet.

“We're trying to hold on to our history and to create an opportunity for our children to learn a little about the community,” said Dr. William Lawrence, principal of Foley Elementary School. “There are a lot of things in the book that folks don't know about.”

After an anticipated publishing date on Thursday, Nov. 5, 500 printed copies of the book will be for sale for $10 at Foley Elementary School. The book is expected to sell out quickly and the school is accepting pre-orders.

The kids will also have a book signing on Thursday, Nov. 5, from 6 p.m.  to 8 p.m. where the 2014-2015 fourth grade class will be autographing their work. The public is invited and refreshments will be served.

This special centennial project was made possible through the support of the mayor, the city council, the Centennial Committee and the citizens of the City of Foley.
