William Robert “Bob” Sullivan, 62, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 at his home in Gulf Shores.
He was born Jan. 14, 1947 in Columbus, Miss., the son of William “Bill” H. Sullivan and Merlene Ferguson Sullivan. He was married to Alice Taylor Sullivan for 31 years.
A graduate of Auburn University, he received a BS in textile engineering and was a successful manager for several large textile manufacturers including Huyek Felt in Aliceville, and E.R. Carpenter in Russellville, Ky.
Following retirement from his industry, he and his wife moved to Gulf Shores. He continued to work parttime for security services at various Gulf Shores resorts, most recently at Gulf Shores Plantation, where he delighted in assisting and wecoming guests vacationing at the resort. He especially enjoyed making new friends who frequented the resort and delighted in receiving acquaintances from his previous hometowns.
He received superior care in his final days by Covenant Hospice. The family wishes to express gratitude to the Covenant Hospice representatives and the staff at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center, who provided excellent care.
In addition, thank you to all the friends from Aliceville, Russellville and Gulf Shores who acknowledges him as his health decreased.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Merlene Ferguson Sullivan, and sister, Pat Sullivan Neuhauser.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Taylor Sullivan of Gulf Shores; father, William “Bill” Sullivan and stepmother, Thelma H. Sullivan of Livingston; sons, Scott (Leann) Sullivan of Auburn and Johnny Sullivan of Opelika; step-son, Bill (Polly) Goodwin of Aliceville; and four grandchildren, Seth, Lauren and Lily Sullivan, and Will Goodwin.
Graveside services were held Thursday, Oct. 1 at Shady Grove Cemetery in Panola with the Rev. Roger Short, pastor of Panola United Methodist Church, officiating.
Pallbearers were Will Goodwin, Bill Parker, David Gilbert, Jimmy Gay, Frank Neuhauser and Ronald Simmoms.
Visitation was held prior to the service at Panola United Methodist Church.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Covenant Hospice, 1040 Stanton Road Suite D, Daphne, AL 36526.
Arrangements were made by Bumpers Funeral Home, York, Alabama.
