Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Shining Star Youth Camps
Children 8 to 13

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Shining Star Youth Camp is a program established to promote positive interaction between the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and children and to build life skills, instill confidence and develop self esteem. The curriculum includes a wide range of activities that incorporate team work, physical fitness and general Sheriff’s Office information. The program is a cooperative effort by several public safety and public service agencies in the county.
Activities include drug awareness with K-9 demonstrations, crime scene investigations, boater’s safety with simulators, fire safety, physical health information, bowling, obstacle courses, guest speakers, a family fun day, and many other activities.
Camp staff is made up of volunteers of the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and other participating agencies. The camp fee is $30 and includes camp shirts and activities.

21st Annual Kids’ College

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Pensacola State College Kids’ College summer program features fun classes and specialized camps on the Pensacola and Warrington campuses.
Courses are offered between 8 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday in separate age groups. Cost varies, depending on selections.
Classes include Math Games, Spanish 101, Book Club, Digital Photography, Art Around the World, Drawing Studio, Fashion Design, Games Inside/Outside, Newspaper Reporter, Film/TV Commercial, Swimming, Sports Sampler, Sign Language, Lego World, Private I Sleuth, Pop Culture for Kids and much more.

The program includes opportunities for children to participate in individual and group activities through indoor and outdoor games, arts and crafts, movies, music, swimming, field trips and special events. Activities are conducted by full time and/or summer staff.

Music Camp

Sponsored by the Baldwin County Youth Orchestra, the camp will include classes for voice, band and orchestral (string) students, as well as a piano academy sponsored by Broussard’s Music. The piano academy will allow for beginning students as well as classes for students already able to read music and play.

Students will have the option of taking many different classes ranging from music fundamentals, chorus and various ensembles. Master classes in all instruments and private lessons will also be offered. Campers should have a minimum of one year of disciplined study in music and a recommendation by a music teacher. The camp is under the direction of Barbara Laurendine, adjunct instructor of piano in the UMobile Center for Performing Arts. Full and partial tuition scholarships are available by audition,

Children will learn the basics of food and kitchen safety, how to set a table and use nice table manners. They will learn about good nutrition while having fun and learning to be creative with food. Students will receive a cookbook at the end of the week; Karen Sims, instructor. The cost is $30.
• Are You a Rocket Scientist?
Rising sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders

Bay Minette Middle School
Students will build Bottle Rockets and test for time in the air; Towers and test for strength with the least amount of mass; and Storm the Castle by designing and launching projectiles with a Trebuchet (Catapult). Darla Herrin is the instructor. The cost is $50, and students should bring a lunch.
• Painting Without Fear

• Camp Lift Off: A Week of Science Discovery

Sponsored by Faulkner State Community College, this program has been created by certified marine educator and public school teacher, Belinda Ringpfeil. The curriculum is designed using Ocean Literacy principles to guide learning through hands-on activities, inquiry, research, problem-solving and critical-thinking. Each camp will include a guest speaker from the field or local special events.
June 7, Animal Explorer Week, an up-close look at live and preserved oceanic sea life, their favorite foods, family life, and other opportunities to learn food chains and lifestyles of the sea life in their extensive ecosystem.
June 14, Animal Expert Week, campers will “adopt” a favorite sea animal to get hands-on experience as a real marine scientist. Research techniques will include microscopes, behavioral observations, species and anatomy explorations.
“June 21, Dive Deep Explorers Week, campers will learn about building a submarine SCUBA, planning a research mission and instruments to track animals.
Each four-day week costs $100 per camper. This cost can be paid via phone registration by credit card or check. The camp will be held at the Gulf Shores campus of FSCC.

Opera Camp

Opera Camp gives children a chance to experience all of the elements of opera production. It culminates in a public performance of an opera created by campers under the guidance of a professional opera director and musical coaches. Campers play music and theatre games that teach them the skills used in operatic performance, and will gain hands-on experience in set, costume, prop, and makeup design. No previous experience or training is necessary for Opera Camp. Cost is $150 per session.

The camp, a partnership of Fairhope High School and the city of Fairhope, will be held at Volanta Park and the Fairhope Municipal Pool. Activities will be supervised by local coaches and will include ball games, swimming, soccer, tennis, ping pong and arts and crafts. No extended day care will be offered. The cost is $15 per day per child or $60 a week (no half days, full days only). No advance registration is required. There will be no sessions the week of July 4th.

SummerTide Theatre Camp
No age restrictions but campers must be able to read.

June 7-11, geared toward beginners and focuses on basic elements of theatre such as story theatre, dance and music.
June 14-18, for intermediate-level campers and will focus on monologues, simple scene work, improvisation and dance and music.

Campers at the Gulf Coast Zoo will engage in age-specific games, arts and crafts projects and special zoo-related events.
