Summer Tide honors Herring

GULF SHORES, Ala. — Bob Wright, the marketing director for the University of Alabama’s drama department, made a recent visit to the South Baldwin Community Theatre and Elaina Herring, the board president, to present her with a plaque to commemorate their seventh year partnering with the U of A Summer Tide Theatre Project.

Over the years their drama department has spent the month of June sharing its talents with and teaching the children of Baldwin County what it takes to make it on stage. Their weekly children’s workshops, for ages 5 to 18, have encouraged and produced so many talented young thespians in the community, who have gone on to perform in the many plays and events SBCT produces all year long.

You might even recognize some of these children in TV commercials.

The Summer Tide also brings its talents to the stage for all to see every weekend in June. Over the years they have brought to life “Pump Boys and Dinettes,” “Charlie Brown,” “Anything Goes,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Grease” and last summer’s performance of “Godspell.”

These multi-talented performers give the Baldwin area some of the best professional plays they will see, while giving back to the community through the children they teach.

The SBCT is proud to be affiliated with the University of Alabama’s Summer Tide drama department, and hopes this is one partnership they can enjoy for a long time to come.

Be sure to visit the SBCT Web site for coming attractions and plan to come see the Summer Tide Series in June 2010.

Up next for SBCT is their Dec. 4-6, 11-13 performances of “All Through the House,” a Christmas play set in 1872 that’s bound to bring a smile to everyone’s face during this holiday time.

For information, or to purchase your tickets, stop by the theater, located at 2022 W. 22nd St. in Gulf Shores, go online to www.sbct.biz, or call (251) 968-6721.
