Summerdale, Ala. -     Summerdale Mayor David Wilson authorized at Monday's council meeting a 90-day policy allowing police officers living more than 10 miles outside the town limits to take home their vehicles when off duty.

Wilson said the decision is because there are only four officers on staff currently, and "they're working a lot of overtime."

"This is something to help these guys out," Wilson said.

The general rule is any officer living more than 10 miles outside the town limits cannot take home their vehicle. and T.J. Palkovic said two of the four officers fall into this category.

The town council showed general support for the decision, but no formal vote was taken.
