Summerdale also considering LED technology

Posted

Summerdale and Foley’s elected officials are considering implementing a relatively new lighting technology, which will result in long-term savings for both municipalities.

Ronald Peaslee, owner of Bravo Zulu, a technology company out of Huntsville, gave demonstrations to both municipalities earlier this week. He demonstrated how his LED lighting is sustainable, sturdy and economical. Peaslee claims each municipality could see energy savings equaling half of the normal power bill wherever LED lights are installed.

The LED lighting is more expensive than the lighting systems both municipalities already have in place. The elected officials of both municipalities were hesitant to fork over the cash in uncertain economic times, but both were willing to try out the technology.

Bravo Zulu already has an agreement with Riviera Utilities to retrofit HUD housing in the area so Rivera can take their own measurements to prove Peaslee’s claims. The City of Foley has agreed to allow the company to do a test run at the Foley Public Library, at the company’s expense. If the trial run is successful, Foley anticipates retrofitting one project at a time so the savings from previous projects can pay for subsequent ones.

Summerdale Mayor David Wilson asked the company to assess the town’s municipal complex and give the town a quote before the town decided to invest money for savings later.

According to Wilson when the town built the new municipal complex energy saving was a priority, but the LED technology was not available. Wilson feels this new technology would be beneficial to Summerdale if the town can find a way to afford it.
