SUMMERDALE — Burning regulations in Summerdale should be a little more clear next week. That’s because the Summerdale Town Council plans to pass an ordinance to tweak its town burn ordinance during Monday’s regular meeting.
During Tuesday’s Council workshop, Mayor David Wilson announced that the new ordinance will stipulate that within Summerdale town limits debris cannot be burned within fewer than 350 feet from a wooden fence or combustible structure.
As previously reported, the issue came before the Council last month when Wilson said that despite a burn-permit ordinance, people had been burning debris on their property without acquiring a permit. That discussion led to the need to tweak the ordinance, with input from the Summerdale Volunteer Fire Department. It also led the Council to add Public Works Director Lee Irwin to the list of contacts for a permit, which also includes Summerdale Fire Chief John Resmondo and placing a call to Town Hall.
Also as previously reported, the need to contact the town for a burn permit is especially important to ensure that a statewide burn ban is not in place.
The Town Council’s regular meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday in Summerdale Town Hall.
