SUMMERDALE, Ala. — Summerdale’s introduction of a new holiday tradition is being touted as a success.
During Monday’s Town Council meeting, Council member Norma Wilson Giles reported that last week’s Christmas concert drew more than 160 spectators.
“The music was just wonderful,” she said.
The concert, held at Summerdale Municipal Complex, served as a fundraiser for Marjorie Younce Snook Public Library. The evening featured performances by Howard Reddy, Hanan Tarabay Reddy, Megan Andzulis and Victor Andzulis. In addition, concessions were available for sale, with proceeds also going toward the library.
“We sold $1,500 in tickets and $450 in cakes,” said Giles, who serves on the library’s Board of Directors.
From that, expenses of the event were deducted.
“I’m thinking we’re still going to have a profit of $300 to $400,” said Giles, who also played piano during the concert
Organizers say those attending continued to compliment the event several days later.
“We have received telephone calls and people coming by the library to say how nice it was,” Library Director Cindy Suggs said.
Council member Travis Townsend added that his entire family “raved about it.”
With such reviews, will the library make this an annual holiday tradition?
“If we can,” Giles said.
