SUMMERDALE — The town of Summerdale is now operating under the 2012 International Building Code.
During its regular meeting Monday, the Summerdale Town Council approved the change, which updates from the previously-required 2006 codes.
“Baldwin County adopted the 2012 codes on Jan. 17, 2012,” Summerdale Building Inspector Paul Vishway said in an interview after the meeting. “Now we’re in line with them.”
He explained that the town’s adoption also includes several supplements to that code.
“Every town can adopt their own supplements,” Vishway said.
For example, the town adopted the 2012 International Property Maintenance Code.
“Which Baldwin County didn’t do,” Vishway said.
According to the ordinance, additional 2012 supplements the town of Summerdale adopted include: International Fuel Gas Code, International Mechanical Code, International Plumbing Code, International Energy Conservation Code, International Residential Code that enables a wind sustainability of 130 mph, Supplemental Code for Residential Structures and National Electric Code. In addition, the town adopted Local Wind Load Code for three-second gust winds: 130 mph south of I-10, 120 mph I-10 north to I-65 and 110 mph for I-65 north to county line.
The ordinance also implements fees for new residential and remodeling construction, new commercial and remodeling construction, temporary mobile structure-use fees for commercial use, re-inspection fees, weekend or after-hours inspections, sign-permit fees, general-use permit fee and a $50 fee for all plans reviews requiring a Site Plan Review.
The ordinance also details general-contractor responsibilities, sequence of inspections and additional requirements not addressed by codes.
