Summerdale is having a superior week this week. The SP class is selling Krispy Kreme certificates to raise money for Special Olympics. In science, they are roaring into bears. Their story in literature this week is the classic tale of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.” The most fun lesson was “The Mouse Song”. They are also studying consumer practices in math. Mrs. Rodgers, teacher of the SP class, says, “Our class fits together!”

It was recently the 100th day of school and Pre-K had a lot of fun with the candy and toys from a piñata! In science, they’ve been studying all about penguins, while in math they have been studying patterns and counting to 20. Also, their stories this week are, “Wolf’s Chicken Stew” and “Mrs. Bindergarden Celebrates 100th Day of School.”

Mrs. Lawson’s class is preparing to repair the old Summerdale garden. In science, the students in kindergarten are studying the season of winter and winter’s appropriate attire. In literature, they are reading “My Lucky Day”. The students of the month for the month of January were Asiah Copes and Zoe Styron. Several awards went out to students in Mrs. Lawson’s class in January. The “Good Listener Award” went out to Penelope Price and Tanner Williams. The “Good Citizenship Award” went to Zoe Styron, Sam Walker, and Nehemiah Leggett. Finally, the “Most Improved Award” went out to Zoe Styron and Asiah Copes.  Students said that counting money was the most fun lesson this week. “My favorite thing to do is work!” said Nehemiah Leggett. Mrs. Lawson says, “I am very happy with how my students are reading and working towards first grade!”

In 2nd grade they are hoppin “n” boppin! In science, they are sliding into penguins and Antarctica. In reading, they are reading “The Quilt Story.” Then, they are going to make a class quilt. The kids’ favorite lesson was the one on George Washington Carver and his invention of peanut products. Third grade is learning about Earth materials in science. In math, they are studying their multiples of 8 and fractions. Their literature story is “Hottest, Coldest ,Highest, Deepest.” The student of the month is Michael Levins.  Fourth grade has a very busy schedule.  They’re learning about sound and geometric shapes. In Mrs. Kaechele’s class, they are focusing on geometric shapes. Both classes are studying sound waves. They are also doing a web quest on the rain forest.
