Summerdale PD to host drug seminar

SUMMERDALE, Ala. - Summerdale Police Chief Frankie "Eddie" Ingram will speak at a drug awareness seminar hosted by the Summerdale Police Department Tuesday at the town Municipal Complex.

The seminar, which is free to attend and will begin at 6:30 p.m., will educate residents about methamphetamine, cocaine and other destructive drugs and how they affect the local community.

"It's going to cover every kind of drug that kids and adults are using now and how to recognize that in a person and basically everything you need to know abut drugs," Ingram said. "The thing is 99 percent of the people don't know what's out on the streets and what our kids and young adolescents are exposed to every day and what they can do to you."

The seminar will provide parents, residents and children the current information and trends concerning drug activity.

"Prescription drugs now are the most widely abused," Ingram said. "What people don't realize is just because they are prescription, it doesn't mean they aren't dangerous."

The event also will help the town's police, Ingram said.

"This educational program not only helps the public but helps us because we teach the public how to recognize the problems in their community," he said.

The town's new chief has over 31 years of law enforcement experience and has conducted over 650 free drug awareness seminars.

"I think the people in attendance will get a lot out of it. Drugs affect everybody. It doesn't matter who you are," Ingram said.

Families, teachers, church organizations and other citizens are encouraged to attend.
