Summerdale police chief re-instated

SUMMERDALE — After being placed on administrative leave in July, Summerdale Police Chief Frank “Eddie” Ingram is back in office.

As previously reported, Ingram was placed on leave last month after a hearing with the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission, which regulates law-enforcement officers throughout the state. The proceedings were held in Montgomery to address charges that Ingram had knowingly filed false reports to the commission. The hearing included testimony from Ingram, Summerdale Town Clerk Tiffany Lynn and Maj. Greg Hardy of APOSTC. Also testifying were Robert Mason and Charles Cook, both of whom Ingram was accused of falsely reporting to APOSTC as part-time police officers.

Despite the APOSTC ruling, Alabama Probate Judge Charles Price intervened on Ingram’s behalf last week by granting the police chief a “stay and regional order,” allowing him to return to work. That order was handed down Wednesday, and Ingram didn’t waste any time getting back on the job.

“I got the word at 10:29 Wednesday morning,” Ingram said in a phone interview. “I was back at work in about an hour.”

However, Price’s action still doesn’t change the APOSTC ruling. To get that accomplished, Ingram has filed an appeal.

“I’m asking for a trial by jury,” the police chief said.

Efforts to reach Lynn and Summerdale Mayor David Wilson for comment by press time were unsuccessful.
