SUMMERDALE, Ala. — Reading in Summerdale this summer is sure to be explosive as the Marjorie Younce Snook Public Library prepares to launch “Fizz, Boom, Read!” next week.
The free Summer reading program kicks off Tuesday with its first installment. That means from 10 a.m. to noon each Tuesday in June, participants can enjoy live entertainment, crafts, reading and refreshments.
“We divide them up into three groups, according to age,” Library Director Cindy Suggs said. “They’ll do age-appropriate crafts.”
She added that a featured reader will read from an age-appropriate book each week, as well.
According to Suggs, the name of this year’s Summer Reading program gives a glimpse of what’s in store.
“It’s going to be a scientific theme,” she said.
That means each Tuesday’s program will center around science, with the entertainment lineup as follows:
* June 3 — Flow Circus
* June 10 — All Hands Productions
* June 17 — Reno’s Reptiles
* June 24- Mobile Exploreum
While the first three installments will be held at the library, Suggs said the finale will be at a special location.
“That will be held at the Summerdale School gym,” she said.
That’s because Mobile Exploreum has quite an explosive show planned for attendees.
“We’re really excited about it,” Suggs said.
The finale will also include the announcement of the top three readers.
“And each participant will receive a certificate and a goody bag,” Suggs said.
Last year, the library boasted 120 participants in the Summer Reading Program.
“We have 13 registered this year, already,” Suggs said.
