SUMMERDALE, Ala. — The town of Summerdale is once again producing its own water.
During Monday’s Town Council meeting, Summerdale Public Works Director Lee Irwin announced that the town well had been cleared to operate.
“The water should be flowing tomorrow,” he told the Council Monday evening.
Irwin explained that in March of 2012, ADEM shut down the Summerdale well after testing of the water resulted in unsatisfactory results.
“Since that time, we have put in a VOC stripper,” the public works director said, explaining that the air stripper purifies water by removing volatile organic compounds.
Upon the well’s closure, Summerdale has purchased water from the city of Robertsdale and Riviera Utilities while an alternate well has been looked into. However, that did not affect Summerdale customers.
“The water bill didn’t change,” Irwin said.
