Summerdale wreck victims recovering

SUMMERDALE, Ala. — The six teens who were involved in a wreck in Summerdale around 9 p.m. on Saturday night are recovering in area hospitals.

As of Monday night, Michael Little, 16, of Robertsdale, driver of the Toyota Tacoma King Cab was in fair condition at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, while Chad New was in critical condition, according to Summerdale Police Chief Dwain Riebeling.

Zack Cobb remains in critical condition at USA Medical Center in Mobile but is breathing on his own and Emilio Urban is in stable condition. Brian Hinote and Emanuel Curry were treated and released from South Baldwin Regional Medical Center in Foley, according to police reports.

Speed seems to a factor in the wreck that threw two of the teens from the truck as it veered off the road, hit a culvert and went airborne, flipping and landing on its side. The rest of the teens had to be cut out.

How fast the truck was going and whether alcohol or drugs were involved is not known at this time as the investigation continues, Riebeling said.

The wreck occurred at the intersection of County Road 32 and 73 near Wynn Cemetery in Summerdale.

Three of the teens were from Robertsdale and the other three were from Foley. Theresa Bryant, Robertsdale High School Principal, said counselors would be available for those students who needed to talk to them.

“Our heart goes out to those students and their family and friends. All of us are keeping the kids in our prayers. This is such a tragedy for these young people, their families and friends,” Bryant said.
