GULF SHORES, AL - George Surry, the Fire Marshal for the City of Gulf Shores, was recently recognized by the Board of Directors of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for achieving 30 consecutive years as a Nationally Registered EMT Paramedic. This distinction is an honor held by few EMTs.
To maintain his status as a Nationally Registered EMT, George completed, on a biennial basis, the most comprehensive recertification process for Emergency Medical Technicians in America. He not only completed courses to refresh his fundamental knowledge and skills but also attended a minimum of two hours per month of additional continuing education courses to advance his knowledge on new lifesaving skills.
George began his career in EMS in 1982 working for Foley Ambulance Service. In 1986, George became a Firefighter/Paramedic for the City of Gulf Shores. George has served us as a sergeant, lieutenant then Battalion Chief.
In 2008 George made a lateral move to Fire Marshal. In this position George has excelled and was a major contributor to our success in obtaining an I.S.O Class 1. During this time George continued providing EMS training for City of Gulf Shores employees and citizens.
His involvement in the Life Safety arena goes far beyond regular duties for the Citizens of Gulf Shores. George is on the Board for the Alabama Association of Arson Investigators and serves the Alabama Fire Marshal Association.
We are very proud to have Fire Marshal George Surry and appreciate his exemplary example of servant leadership.
