DAPHNE, Alabama (UPDATE)—James Terell Winston, 25, of Daphne, was arrested Friday at the Eastern Shore Motel on US Highway 98 in Daphne where the body of Bernard Volcheck was discovered Thursday by a cleaning crew, according to the Daphne Police Department.

Winston was arrested early yesterday at the motel on unrelated charges and later charged with capital murder, according to a DPD news release issued last night.

Volcheck’s missing vehicle, which a motel surveillance video showed leaving the Eastern Shore Motel Wednesday night, was found in the possession of Winston’s girlfriend in Daphne yesterday. Volcheck was a guest at the motel.

Probable cause for the capital murder charge included evidence collected in the automobile.

Winston has confessed to the murder, the release stated.

A capital murder charge, which carries the death penalty, requires murder in the commission of another crime. Police have not released any details about the manner in which Volcheck was allegedly killed.
